Circles Coop, which I co-founded in 2021, was an exciting experiment in community-based digital currencies. Circles was an application that implemented a fair global currency based on the principle of Universal Basic Income. Each registered account received 1 CRC every hour. The Circles Berlin pilot project attracted worldwide attention because it was a real experiment that introduced a UBI system through a complementary currency. For more than a year, it was possible to pay with CRC at over twenty business partners in Berlin. The stewards of Cirles Coop eG handed over the project to the Gnosis team in 2024.
